THE LAND BECAME THE CANVAS

The vision was to restore the native prairie attracting native pollinators and honey bees, Setting the stage for Black Barn Apiary

Founded by creative director and beekeeper Barbara Rosin, Black Barn Apiary is a celebration of the ecosystem.

Black Barn Apiary was established in 2018, located on 20 acres on the southern edge of the Kettle Moraine in Southeast Wisconsin

THE PRAIRIE RESTORATION

Basswood, Catalpa, Cherry, Juneberries, White Pine,
Sugar Maple , Oak, and Redbud are just a few of the native trees on the land. Button Bush, Cranberry Bush Viburnum, Elderberry, Spice Bush, Sumac and many other shrubs, add another layer of flora.

Combined with the nectar from our evolving prairie,
the bloom time extends from early Spring to late Fall creating our signature Prairie Flower artisanal honey.

THE APIARY

Our bee families are housed in hand-crafted Slovenian bee hives installed in the Black Barn’s southern wall. This design helps protect them from the elements resulting in a thicker honey.

PARTNERING WITH BEEKEEPERS

A special thank you to our select beekeepers who provide
us with our outstanding varietal honeys.
